A Ceremony of Remembrance (poem)

Such like children we are,
dancing eyes like ocean waves
upon the rocky breadth of Father’s
chest.

Such like children we
frolic merrily beneath
torrents and tidal waves,

amongst sage bush and
lilac blooming blush cheeks
below lines of age and loss.

Such like children we
dream in ancient melodies;
bone scraped lutes; boar hair
lyres; on Mother’s back we

dance as Eagle’s to
the ballad of Father Sky.
Such like children we
embrace the backs of

our enemies with fingers soft
as Nile silt. Such like children
we offer kisses untainted by
the milky blood of willows.

Such children we are,
casting spells of laughter
into the wind–with fingers up
to Father, knees down
to Mother Earth.

A Ceremony of Remembrance,
to reinvigorate the glow of listless eyes,
in that the iron hearts of dry yuppies
might arise anew–like children
from a womb-ed, crimson bloom.
